Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - Muscular dystrophy (MD)

A neuromuscular disorder impairing physical activity, which leads to muscle wasting. Multiple Sclerosis is a progress disease of the central nervous system in which Myelin (the protective patches of the nerve fibres in the brain are destroyed. Muscular Dystrophy is an inherited muscle disorder in which there is slow but progress degeneration of muscle fibres.

Some characteristics changes on Body Composition in neuromuscular patients

Monitoring Body Composition

Nonambulatory MS patients tend to have less Body Cell Mass and Fat Free Mass compared to ambulatory MS patients. On the other hand MD patients have less Total Body Water relative to body weight and higher Extracellular/ intracellular ratio.

The routine use of Maltron Analysers as screening tool could help identify these diseases at earlier stage helping implement effect treatment.
