Anorexia

We are aware overweight and obese individuals have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, strokes,
arthritis, hyperlipidemia and hypertension just to mention a few.

We should also be aware that having too little body fat is a health risk. Individuals with too little fat tend to be malnourished
increasing their risk of fluid-electrolyte imbalances, bone fractures, osteopenia and osteoporosis, muscle wasting, cardiac
arrhythmias and peripheral oedema as well as renal and reproductive disorders.

Anorexia nervosa, is one disease associated with extremely low body fat levels. This disease is an eating disorder common
amongst females and is characterized by excessive weight loss.

Note: Equations developed for anorexia and obese population may only be used when certain such conditions exist.
